HISWA symposium celebrates 50 years

The 50th HISWA International Symposium on Yacht Design and Yacht Construction will be held at RAI Amsterdam Nov. 12 and 13.

The bi-annual event is organized by the HISWA Association, Delft University of Technology and RAI Amsterdam, which organizes Metstrade, the annual trade show held in Amsterdam.

Chairman Hans Hopman will open the show. The keynote address, “50 Years HISWA Symposium, 50 Years Innovation in Yacht Design,” will be delivered by Gerard Dijkstra of DykstraNA and Lex Keuning of Delft University of Technology. Discussions on such topics as hybrid propulsion, batteries in large yachts, prediction methods for wind propulsion will follow.

The second day will start with “The Process Of Creative Thinking,” a discussion by Matthijs van Djik, from Delft. This will be followed by presentations covering motion analysis, haptic support for small ships in waves, swimming pools on yachts and superyacht construction.
