ICOMIA names speakers for Asia Boating Forum

ICOMIA released the speaker lineup for the Asia Boating Forum, which will be held April 7-8.

ICOMIA released the speaker lineup for the Asia Boating Forum, which will be held April 7-8 at the One 15 Marina Club at Sentosa Cove in Singapore.

Held during the April 6-9 Singapore Yacht Show, the forum — held in association with the International Council of Marine Industry Associations — is a strategic meeting of industry professionals and regional authorities to learn about and discuss issues and challenges in the development and sustainability of the recreational marine industry in Asia.

The program will feature Asian market reports by industry specialists, who will present statistical and market data updates from countries in the region and around the globe.

Panel sessions will cover the development of pro-boating policies and harmonization of cross-border regulations, as well as marine conservation and developing a stronger alignment between boating and the environmental agenda.

“The ABF has been developed to explore emerging Asian industries with the aim of developing strategies to create an environment where appropriate infrastructure, regulations that promote boating and significant economic development can take place,” ICOMIA secretary general Udo Kleinitz said in a statement. “And we are honored to have the following speakers join the program to provide their insight and expertise on the region.”

Speakers include:

* Aashim Mongia, India Marine Federation / West Coast Marine

* Gamini Herath, Boat Building Technology Improvement Institute Sri Lanka

* Ruurd Van Patten, Sailing Centre Vietnam

* Erwin Bamps, Gulf Craft

* Christopher Sauné, Poralu Marine Hong Kong

* MaryAnne Edwards, Australia Marine Export

* Konstantina Rappou, Camper Nicholsons First Eastern

* Rico Stapel, Thailand Marine Business Association

* Prasetyo, Pelindo Property Indonesia

* Cheah Su Lin, Spinnaker International

* Mike Derrett, Mike Derrett Consulting

Kleinitz will provide delegates with an update on the ICOMIA Asia Project, an initiative to identify and understand obstacles to growth in Asia.

The first of its kind in the region, the ICOMIA Asia Project is a collective effort with key industry players that will strengthen market insight in the region and benefit businesses operating in the international leisure marine industry, organizers said.

Subject to the creation of an efficient funding mechanism, the first phase of the project will focus on Brunei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
