The funeral for a respected industry leader will be held Thursday in Goshen, Ind.

Harold A. Schrock, who grew his father’s boatbuilding business into a recognized and respected industry name, died Saturday in his Syracuse, Ind., home at age 97.

His businesses included Starcraft Marine, Smoker Craft, Goshen Sash and Door, and Goshen Iron and Metal.

Born April 10, 1915 in Goshen, Ind., Harold grew up in his father Arthur’s boatbuilding business, started in 1903 as the Star Tank Co.

Known as a generous member of the Goshen community, Schrock gave to many local enterprises and was the member of many local non-profit boards.

“Harold had a tremendous sense of family and community,” Schrock’s daughter and Smoker Craft chairman Cinda McKinney said.

Starcraft-Smoker Craft Inc. offers a complete line of marine products, including aluminum fishing, pontoon, and fiberglass boats under the brand names Smoker Craft, Starcraft, Sylvan, Sunchaser, Starweld and American Angler.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be given to The Thelma A. Schrock Homestead at Greencroft Healthcare in support of scholarships, according to the Goshen News.
