John Ciullo, a broker and special projects manager at International Yacht Collection in Fort Lauderdale, died Saturday, a day before his 55th birthday.

Ciullo’s long industry career included stints as a sailing and motoryacht captain, a manager at International Yacht Register, a broker at Platinum Yacht Collection, comptroller at The Sacks Group and a yacht manager at Bob Saxon Associates in the early days of yacht management.

“The industry has lost a good man, a consummate professional and a true gentleman,” IYC president Bob Saxon said. “John was universally admired and liked. Those who knew John as a friend and colleague included representation from literally every segment of the international yachting scene. He will be sorely missed.”

Ciullo had been a member of the Florida Yacht Brokers Association since 2008.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Calvary Chapel: Main Sanctuary, 2401 West Cypress Creek Road, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

After the service, friends will gather at 1 p.m. at Chuck's Steak House, 1207 SE 17th St., Fort Lauderdale.

Like most people born in 1990, Justin Bennett was on a four-year college track. He and his parents took it for granted that he would attend college before moving on to a steady desk job — until a stint at sailing camp, and later as a counselor, helped Bennett discover his passion for boats.
