Two Pacific Northwest insurance agencies now offer a safety discount to boat owners who install a SmartPlug inlet and connector on their vessel.

Hub International of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Boat Insurance Agency in Seattle support the SmartPlug shore power system alternative.

"We've heard nothing but positive feedback from customers regarding SmartPlug," Hub International account manager Paul Mendham said in a statement. "If it prevents just one fire, the product and discount have paid off."

"We endorse SmartPlug. I feel it has saved my boat," Boat Insurance Agency president Neil Booth added. "There have been multiple times SmartPlug's thermostat feature has been triggered and shut off the power on my boat. The electrical problem turned out to be caused by an older, traditional twist-type plug I was using."
