The International Yacht Restoration School is hosting open houses at its Newport and Bristol, R.I., campuses in mid-July.

The events provide opportunities to talk with IYRS staff and instructors, see student projects and learn about the skills taught at the school’s training programs that can lead to careers in the marine industry.

IYRS will host an open house July 19 at its waterfront campus in Newport. The campus is home to the school’s boatbuilding and restoration program and includes two historic buildings from 1831 and 1903. The Newport campus is also the site of notable restorations, including the restoration of the rare 1885 schooner yacht Coronet.

Visitors to the open house can see the construction of the mast for the R-boat Ruweida V, a graceful sloop originally launched in 1926 that was restored this term by second-year students.

On July 21, IYRS will open the doors to its Bristol facility, home of the school's marine systems and newly launched composites technology programs.

For information about the events, contact director of admissions Ned Jones at (401) 848-5777, Ext. 203.
