The International Yacht Restoration School is hosting its seventh annual Marine Industry Career Day on March 3.

The one-day event, free to the public, will draw marine industry experts and employers who are coming to IYRS to connect with people interested in marine careers.

Career seekers will have an opportunity to meet employers, including boatbuilders, boatyards and marine manufacturers; learn about the skills needed to work in the boating business; gather information about how to gain skills that are in demand; learn about career prospects in the industry; and attend informative seminars.

IYRS Career Day runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Newport, R.I. campus.

For information or to reserve space, call Clark Poston at (401) 848-5777, Ext. 210.

Workers Wanted

Like most people born in 1990, Justin Bennett was on a four-year college track. He and his parents took it for granted that he would attend college before moving on to a steady desk job — until a stint at sailing camp, and later as a counselor, helped Bennett discover his passion for boats.

Momentum from Boat Shows Expected to Continue

Seventy percent of boat dealers who responded to a monthly survey said they had at least “somewhat positive” momentum emerging from winter boat shows, with 38 percent saying momentum was “very strong” or “strong.”
