Laborde Products donates to tornado victims

Laborde Products employees recently donated 750 pounds of supplies to the victims of the recent tornado in Joplin, Mo.

Julie Davis, Louisiana-based Laborde's office manager and a former Joplin resident, coordinated the collection effort. Along with food, items such as soap, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand sanitizer, paper products, sunscreen and trash bags were donated.

“The drive was a personal effort for me to help my hometown overcome this disaster of significant magnitude,” Davis said in a statement. “Although the core of Joplin has been destroyed, residents and volunteers are determined to rebuild, as many of us did after Katrina.”

More than 138 people died in the tornado, and many more remain hospitalized. More than 8,000 residences and more than 500 commercial properties were destroyed last month when the twister tore through Joplin.
