The Landing School is set to receive a donation of two Evinrude 250-hp outboard engines from the American Boat & Yacht Club Foundation.

The engines will come with diagnostic tools and access to Evinrude online technical manuals, as well as its in-house technical forum.

The Massachusetts Trades Association provided assistance for The Landing School’s marine systems instructor Josh Mingels to attend ABYC’s inaugural “Marine Service Technology: Educator Training Conference” in Annapolis.

The industry will need about 18,000 new technicians in 2020, said Mingels in The Landing School’s August newsletter. The outboard engines and curriculum around using diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and repair engines will be added to The Landing School’s marine systems lineup and should help prepare students for today’s industry jobs.

After reviewing the new ABYC textbook, Fundamentals of Marine Service Technology, a training program geared toward secondary and post-secondary education, Mingels said the book, engines, teaching aids, sample tests and updated resources available to both instructors and students will be critical additions to the marine systems program at The Landing School.
