Owners can develop a greater level of confidence about their engines and learn basic maintenance routines and ways to recognize the warning signs of engine problems. The company said the series is ideal for owners of all popular brand diesel engines and includes one-day basic maintenance seminars and two-day hands-on seminars that teach emergency repair skills.

Separate seminars are structured to meet the needs of sailboat and powerboat owners. Classes are offered at Mack Boring’s 2,700-square-foot training facilities in Union, N.J., at the company’s New Bedford, Mass., and Wilmington, N.C.,?locations, and in Waukegan, Ill. To date, more than 20,000 students have been trained.

Mack Boring, which turned 90 years old last year, has made training a key to its business model from the early days. During the 1930s “Mack” Sr. started one of the first diesel mechanic training schools in the country. In 1969 his son started a private vocational school, the Engine City Technical Institute, which taught diesel engine operation and maintenance.
