Maine builder starts design, engineering division

Hodgdon Yachts, of East Boothbay, Maine, formed Hodgdon Design and Engineering Services, a division offering subcontracted design and engineering services.

The new division is aimed primarily at supporting existing naval architecture and yacht design practices, refit shipyards and yacht manufacturers, as well as Hodgdon's own boatbuilding operation.

"We have a first-class core competency in engineering and the beauty is they really understand boatbuilding," CEO Tim Hodgdon said in a statement.

Hodgdon is a nearly 200-year-old, family-owned boatbuilder with a heritage that reaches back to the days of clipper ships.
