Maine's North Star Alliance Initiative is offering grants to individuals interested in training classes at the Marine Systems Training Center in Thomaston.

The NSAI is an organization focused on the economic development of coastal Maine.

"North Star is providing financial assistance for training workers in one of Maine's oldest and most distinguished industries," said Minda McVetty, director of the training center, in a statement. "With approval, companies and individuals can avail themselves of this grant money before the grant expires at the end of this year."

The center will also be offering a rigging workshop Dec. 8-9; outboard engine and support systems class from Dec. 8-10 and an electrical certification class from Dec. 14-17.
