The Marine Industries Association of South Florida said it hired Kelly Skidmore to manage and direct its public relations efforts.

The MIASF said Skidmore has lived in coastal South Florida since 1972 and has extensive knowledge of the area and the marine industry, as well as strong relationships with state and local business and community leaders.

She also is the executive director of Broward Days and is a former state lawmaker.

“Kelly brings a high level of professionalism and experience to the public relations position,” MIASF executive director Phil Purcell said in a statement. “Her energy and enthusiasm will help the association continue to grow the marine industry, advocate for our members and build awareness of our economic impact and jobs.”

Skidmore, who considers herself a boating and fishing enthusiast, has worked on public policy issues affecting the marine industry.

“I’m thrilled to be working with an organization that leads our community in protecting precious water assets, stimulating job creation and supporting businesses, and in collaboration with our regulatory agencies and local partners,” she said.
