Michigan marine association president honored

Van Snider, president of the Michigan Boating Industries Association, was named one of 12 members of the Michigan lodging and tourism industries who were recently honored as "Stars of the Industry" by the Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association.

"We have worked collaboratively with other sectors of the tourism industry and I think our participation as partners has garnered appreciation for the contributions boating provides to Michigan's economy and its attractiveness to in-state and out-of-state travelers," Snider told Soundings Trade Only, "I greatly appreciate this award and I'm glad boating and our association are recognized as contributing to the overall tourism experience."

Snider, president of the association since 1990, was named the trade association employee of the year for 2010.

He has been in the boating industry in various capacities since 1974. Snider previously served as chairman of the Advisory Council of Marine Associations & the National Marine Trades Council.

He founded the Recreational Boating Industries Educational Foundation and has been honored with such awards as Michigan Society of Association Executives' Strategic Association Leader Award and the Marine Retailers Association of America's Legislative Award.
