Nautical Enterprises shutting down

Nautical Enterprises Inc., one of the largest yacht dealers on the West Coast and parent company of H&S Yacht Sales and Southwestern Yachts, is ceasing operations.

"We are deeply disappointed that we didn't predict the depth of this downturn, but cannot continue to operate," the company says in a notice posted on its H&S and Southwestern Web sites.

Company officials could not be reached this morning for comment.

Founded in 1989 by CEO Michael Berk and president Doug Ament, Nautical Enterprises has four locations throughout California. It represents and services both power and sailing yachts, specializing in the 30- to 70-foot range from such builders as Silverton, Fairline, Jeanneau, Hunter, Beneteau, Navigator, Lagoon, Californian, Doral and MacGregor.

Nautical Enterprises had just completed an expansion of its Marina del Rey waterfront office last September, which allowed the company to consolidate its Newport Beach location into one superstore in Marina del Rey.
