NMMA: Florida tops 2010 boating sales

Florida is the top boating state, based on annual sales, according to a report released today by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.

Sales in 2010 of new powerboats, motors, trailers and accessories in Florida topped $1.1 billion, according to the NMMA.

Rounding out the top five were: Texas, $812 million; New York, $401 million; North Carolina, $361 million; and Louisiana, $360 million.

Michigan, Delaware, California, Washington and Wisconsin completed the top 10.

Boating expenditures in the United States reached $30.4 billion in 2010 and an estimated 75 million Americans took to the water, an increase of 14 percent from 2009.
