NMMA submits comments to EPA on regulatory relief

The NMMA said the majority of its comments focused on recreational marine engines.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association said it submitted formal comments to the Environmental Protection Agency regarding the EPA’s request for air and radiation actions that should be revisited.

The NMMA said the majority of its comments focused on recreational marine engines and what the association believes are “many redundant oversight programs implemented over the years that are now burdensome, unnecessary and wasteful in terms of both cost and resources.”

The NMMA said it recognizes that EPA air emission programs, as a whole, provide a significant benefit to ensuring a clean environment.

“Without a clean environment, fishing, swimming and all forms of water-related recreation would not be enjoyable or healthy,” the NMMA said.

The EPA’s request stemmed from an executive order from President Donald Trump in February that directed federal agencies to review existing regulations and identify ones for repeal, replacement or modification.

The NMMA said it will continue to watch for updates as the EPA begins to review the comments submitted to it.
