“Power Boating for Dummies,” a new book by Boating Life magazine editor-in-chief Randy Vance, is now available.

The book presents guidance on everything from buying, operating and enjoying a powerboat to acing the boating safety exam, docking and mooring, conducting routine maintenance and repairs, and choosing the best vacation options.

The “Cheat Sheet,” a tear-out card in the front of all “Dummies” books, includes checklists for determining if a boat is seaworthy and staging a boat for launch, as well as a refresher on “right of way.”

The “Part of Tens” at the back of the book features tactics for handling a boat like a pro, important items to keep on board, and mechanical checks for buying a used boat.
