Protomet opens $30 million facility

Protomet-Grand-Opening-01

Protomet Corporation last week opened a new $30 million, 244,000-square-foot plant in Loudon County, Tenn., with a community-wide open house. The facility houses engineering and administration offices, plus a manufacturing and finishing operation. In a statement, the company said the new facility will create 200 jobs for the county.

Founded more than 20 years ago in Oak Ridge, Tenn., Protomet delivers engineering and manufacturing services the boating, automotive and homeland security industries.

Two years ago, the company determined it needed additional manufacturing space to meet demand. Protomet will continue to operate its original Oak Ridge facility where it employs more than 100 people.

“The process of establishing a plant like this can be challenging,” said Jeff Bohanan, Protomet CEO/founder, in the statement. “The people of Loudon County — community members and elected officials — lowered the hurdles to help make this happen. We are excited to meet our new neighbors and become part of this community.”

Protomet has recently introduced a proprietary line of products under the PTM Edge Watersports brand that makes mirrors and wakeboard tower components for recreational boats.
