The 52nd Newport Bermuda Race will be sailed — virtually and free of charge — via a partnership with nonprofit SailOnline. Competitors will choose their division and then take the helm of a sponsor boat from Dehler, Jeanneau, X-Yachts and Italia. SailOnline’s software bases boat speed on a number of factors, with weather updates from real NOAA forecasts four times a day, wind direction and wind speed shifts on varying sections of the course and more, according to a press release.
