The 2020 Florida Skiff Challenge, which was slated to start April 2, has been postponed until further notice. The race — founded by Captains For Clean Water to raise awareness of the state’s myriad water issues — is a non-stop, 1,300-mile circumnavigation around the state of Florida in 18-foot skiffs.

The Boating Industry Association of Australia has cancelled the Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide Boat Shows for 2020 based on forecasts and developments of COVID-19. The Adelaide show had a contingency date set for late September. “This decision will enable the BIA resources to fully focus on member support at this challenging time,” organizers said in a statement.

Climate change is putting whales at a higher risk to be killed by a ship, according to a study published by Frontiers in Marine Science. While the International Maritime Organization has made changes to protect whales, scientists argue that protected zones and shipping lanes need to be redrawn. California counted 10 strikes in 2018, triple the amount compared to previous years.
