Sail magazine names new publisher

Active Interest Media appointed industry veteran Bob Bauer to the position of publisher of its Sail, Multihull Sailor, Sail New Boat and Gear Review titles.

Bauer was previously the Northeast sales representative for the AIM Marine Group publications Power & Motoryacht and Soundings.

AIM also owns Soundings Trade Only.

Bauer brings decades of marine industry and publishing experience to his new position. He spent much of his career at Yachting, Cruising World and Sailing World magazines, including roles as publisher and advertising director.

“Having worked with Bob in the past and competed against him more recently I can say there is no one more competitive, while maintaining his integrity,” AIM Marine Group publisher Gary DeSanctis said. “His passion for sailing is only matched by his passion for winning.”

Bauer grew up in Larchmont, N.Y., where his family cruised and raced sailboats on Long Island Sound out of the Larchmont Yacht Club. He has competed in many regattas and races, including the Newport Bermuda Race, Annapolis to Newport Race and Key West Race Week. He has been a member of the New York Yacht Club since 1983 and the Storm Trysail Club since 2008.

“I am very excited to lead the team at Sail and Multihull Sailor,” said Bauer. “After many years working on the power side of the marine industry, it is nice to come back to my sailing roots.”
