Hunting and fishing events will be held across the country on Saturday to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day.

This nationwide effort, being promoted on www.TakeMeFishing.org, aims to bring national recognition and media attention to the value of hunting and fishing and reinforce their role in conservation.

Congress formalized National Hunting and Fishing Day in 1971 as a way to recognize hunters, anglers and conservation. The annual celebration, led by Wonders of Wildlife, promotes and builds public support for outdoor lifestyles.

Outdoor television star Michael Waddell will serve as honorary chairman for this year's National Hunting and Fishing Day, which has an official home at the Wonders of Wildlife museum in Springfield, Mo.
