Sea Tow Highlights Memorial Day Weekend Statistics

Marine towing company Sea Tow yesterday publicized that requests for service over the Memorial Day weekend were up year-over-year, as much as 228 percent in the Northeast and nearly 29 percent overall from 2021.

The data suggests the influx of new boaters during the Covid-19 pandemic may have contributed to increased requests for services.

According to Sea Tow, boat towing comprised 56 percent of all service requests and that ungroundings consisted of 11 percent of all services. Fuel delivery requests as a percentage of overall jobs rose 42 percent to 9 percent of total jobs. Battery jumps as a percentage of overall jobs rose 28 percent to nearly 10 percent of total jobs.

“At Sea Tow, we are big advocates of getting out on the water and having fun, and we want boaters — new and salty — to do so confidently,” said Sea Tow president Kristen Frohnhoefer in a statement.

“Our captains are your resource on and off your boat, on and off the water. They know the local waters and can help with navigation assistance, tides and weather, anchorages and even mishap prevention tips. No one plans for something to go wrong on the water so it’s important to take the proper steps before you push off,” she added.
