Sperry Top-Sider extends US Sailing sponsorship

Sperry Top-Sider extended its official footwear sponsorship of the US Sailing Association for an another four years.

That means a relationship that began more than two decades ago will now run through Dec. 31, 2016.

The sponsorship program will allow Sperry Top-Sider to focus on the future generation of sailing through its sponsorship of several of the association’s junior sailing programs.

Beginning in 2013, Sperry will be recognized as national sponsor of the US Chubb Junior Championships, an event that features 100 of the top junior sailors in the nation. Also in 2013, Sperry will be the official footwear of the US Sailing Road Show, a grassroots road show with stops at more than 50 junior sailing and community programs held throughout the summer.

Additionally, Sperry Top-Sider will be the official footwear of the US Sailing Junior Olympic Sailing Festivals. The Junior Olympics is a series of 30 annual events that attract nearly 5,000 junior sailors annually.

“By continuing our support of the US Sailing Association — from its grassroots efforts to its elite athletes — we are ensuring proper investment in growing the sport of sailing,” Sperry Top-Sider president Craig Reingold said in a statement. “As inventor of the world’s first boat shoe in 1935, Sperry Top-Sider is a brand with a rich heritage in sailing, and it is essential for us to invest in the future of the sport.”

The partnership follows the April announcement that Sperry has become the title sponsor of the US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider, effective immediately and extending through 2016.
