Turning fly-fishing and paddle-boarding into high-ticket items
An Armani stand-up paddleboard. A flax-fiber fly-fishing rod with a sycamore handle.
Two of the 10 gift ideas listed in the Wall Street Journal Magazine’s 2019 Luxury Gift Guide are related to the water.
Following its first recommendation of an $11,000 diamond- and bevel-cut vase, the magazine lists standup paddleboards — one from Chanel and the other by Armani — under the caption, “Just add water.”
The Chanel paddleboard goes for $23,000; the price of the Emporio Armani SUP is upon request.
The third gift idea is for the high-rolling flyfishing enthusiast.
“For fashionable anglers everywhere, a high-design fishing set includes a wicker-and-calfskin creel, a flax-fiber fly-fishing rod with a sycamore handle, Victorian flies for trout and salmon and a few feathered lucky charms,” writes the magazine.
The price tag for all of that? Hermès creel, $14,900; fishing rod, $11,800; charm, $700; and lures, $700.
