Unemployment remains at 8.3 percent

Employment rose by 227,000 in February, but the unemployment rate was unchanged last month at 8.3 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Employment rose in professional and businesses services, health care and social assistance, leisure and hospitality, manufacturing and mining.

The number of unemployed people remained at 12.8 million.

The unemployment rate was 0.8 percentage point below the August 2011 rate, according to the report.
