Unemployment up again in June

The unemployment rate rose slightly to 9.2 percent in June, the U.S. Department of Labor reported today.

The U.S. economy added 18,000 new jobs in the month and the number of new jobs added in May was revised downward from 54,000 to 25,000.

Since March, the number of unemployed people has increased by 545,000 and the unemployment rate has risen by 0.4 percentage points. The labor force, at 153.4 million, changed little during the month.
