The American Magic team gets some practice in on Narragansett Bay off Newport, R.I.

The New York Yacht Club’s American Magic team that will challenge for the 36 America’s Cup launched a test boat on Friday.

The AM38, which the team calls the Mule, is half the size of the AC75 racing boats that will be used in the actual America’s Cup races. If American Magic wins the challenger series, the competition will take place in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2021.
