VIDEO: Coast Guard rescues six in Boston Harbor

Severe thunderstorms were about to roll into Boston Harbor about 1:30 a.m. as the six awaited rescuers.

The Coast Guard in Boston is reminding boaters how important life jackets can be after rescuing six people from a capsized boat early Sunday morning.

Severe thunderstorms were about to roll into Boston Harbor about 1:30 a.m. as the six awaited rescuers. Three people were on top of the boat and three were clinging to the side when the Coast Guard arrived. Several were without life jackets.

One passenger made a call for help from his cellphone.

"I think that was the best thing ... our efficiency. We were just able to get there, get on scene, pull them onboard," Petty Officer Jon Whalen said.

The four officers who responded caution boaters to be sure they have their life jackets accessible because the equipment can save their lives.
