The Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology has awarded two of its students $500 Owens Scholarships for excellence in the study of boat design.

The scholarships were awarded to Jonathan Ames, of Storm Lake, Ind., and Alfredo Rovere, of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The award is based on academic achievement, creative ability and design presentation.

The scholarship is funded by donations from Norman G. Owens, former present of the Owens Yacht Company of America.
