White House to lead Asian carp forum

John Goss, Asian carp director of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, will lead a public meeting Thursday of the Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee in Port Clinton, Ohio.

The group will discuss the efforts of the Obama administration and the Great Lakes states to prevent Asian carp from establishing a population in the Great Lakes.

The meeting will feature updates by coordinating committee members on actions under way as part of the Asian Carp Control Strategy Framework, a multitiered effort that includes monitoring; barrier construction; harvesting; enforcement; outreach; and the research and development of long-term biological controls for Asian carp. The event also will include an opportunity for the public to comment and provide feedback about the committee’s efforts.

The forum runs from 9-11:45 a.m. (EDT). Click here to see a webcast of the meeting. The conference number is: PG5314996; the passcode is: ASIAN CARP.
