Winners selected in Discover Boating contest

Discover Boating officials selected two winners from a field of nearly 300 entries in the recent "I Discovered Boating" amateur video and photo contest.

"We were overwhelmed with impressive entries from around the country, all of which captured the essence of why 70 million Americans take to the water each year," said Carl Blackwell, spokesman for Discover Boating, in a statement.

The winning video, "What can you discover when you Discover Boating?", was submitted by David Knight of Pittsboro, N.C. The video showcases the many facets of the boating lifestyle by capturing the evolution of boating, how it connects family and friends and builds traditions.

The winning photo, "Just add ... people", was submitted by Ken Lancaster of Highland Village, Texas. The picture highlights the importance of spending quality time with friends and family and how there's nothing better than spending time aboard a boat.

Discover Boating is awarding each winner $5,000, and if the video or photo is used in a future ad campaign, the chosen winner will receive an additional $5,000.

Nine entries were also selected in each category as honorable mentions and are featured along with the winners on DiscoverBoating.com.
