Come join the dynamic and exciting seasonal waterfront team at Great Harbor Yacht Club on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. Our yacht club emphasizes marine traditions, community, socialization and access to the water. Our marina is small but mighty with 27 seasonal slips, five transient slips, two launch boats and a staff of five launch drivers and dock attendants. From our little corner of the harbor, the water opportunities are endless from sailing a dinghy, kiteboarding, paddleboarding, fishing, enjoying a cocktail cruise or searching for clams on Coatue. As the Dockmaster, your goal is to offer incredible customer service to our members and their guests, and keep the dock operating smoothly, safely and presentably. As a licensed Coast Guard (or foreign equivalent) Captain, you should demonstrate excellent boat handling and seamanship at all times. You'll oversee the launch drivers and dock attendants, and run the launch when necessary as well. The launch brings members and their guests out to their boat and also assists with bringing various juniors and adults out for scheduled sailing programs. You would be responsible for any mild dock maintenance, keeping the launch boats in good working order and reporting any problems and making sure both the docks and launch boats are always clean and presentable. You'll also be responsible for keeping the boats in the marina safe by checking lines through tidal cycles and tying up the vessels appropriately.
On the administrative side, you'll be responsible for scheduling the launch drivers and dock attendants to ensure proper coverage during all times of the day and week. You'll schedule transient slip reservations and maintain slip holder insurance information on all seasonal slip holders. Through all this, it's important to have clear and open communication with members and club staff. You'll also be required to ensure the launch activity log is being filled out and maintained. As part of good customer service, you will be tasked with getting to know the membership, their boats and boat locations and smiling and greeting members by name as much as possible. You'll do well to anticipate their needs, and remember that "no" is never a good answer.
This seasonal position begins May 15, 2018 and ends September 23, 2018. Housing is provided at an extra cost, and two meals a day are included. Compensation depends on experience.
- At minimum, USCG Limited Masters License. Captains License (or foreign equivalent) preferred
- CPR/First Aid Certified
- High School Diploma
- Two years’ experience in customer service and marine industry
