Brunswick honors Mercury Racing with safety award

For the second consecutive year the Mercury Racing unit of Mercury Marine has earned the Brunswick Chairman’s Safety Award for the highest level of safety performance by a Brunswick Corp. facility.

The award is selected and presented annually by Brunswick senior management to the most outstanding performers. The purpose of the program is to encourage, recognize and reward employees and facilities that have achieved outstanding safety and health performance through promoting and practicing safety awareness, and ultimately minimizing workplace incidents and injuries. All Brunswick manufacturing and distribution facilities worldwide are eligible for the recognition.

Brunswick chairman and CEO Dustan McCoy presented the award Wednesday to the employees of Mercury Racing at the unit’s headquarters in Taycheedah, Wis. The award includes a $10,000 grant from Brunswick to causes selected by Mercury Racing employees.

This year, three local safety organizations serving the Mercury Racing facility and community were selected to receive donations:

· The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received $3,000 toward the purchase of a side scan sonar unit for its SES Mercury rescue craft.

· The Mount Calvary Ambulance Service received $3,000 for the purchase of a defibrillator and side scoop stretcher for its recently acquired second ambulance.

· The Mount Calvary Fire Department received $4,000 for a confined-space cutter attachment for its hydraulic rescue tool.

“Plants that are safe make great products,” McCoy said in a statement. “This award says that the quality of this facility and the quality of the work done here is world-class, compared to any manufacturing organization around the world.”

The award was accepted by Doug Walters, manufacturing project team leader for Mercury Racing. Walters enumerated many of the projects and individual initiatives that led to Mercury Racing’s award-winning safety performance.

“It’s our culture; it’s in our DNA,” Walters said in a statement. “It’s who we are; it’s just what we do.”
