New Bern, N.C.-based Hatteras Yachts is planning a furlough that will begin July 1 and run through mid-August, the company announced to employees this week.

"Hatteras traditionally takes downtime in July," Brunswick spokesman Dan Kubera told Soundings Trade Only. "Employees were told earlier this year that the time would likely be extended, due to anticipated market conditions."

This action affects hourly and salaried employees. However, most salaried employees will remain on the job to provide the Hatteras dealer base and customers with ongoing support, Kubera said.

"Hatteras greatly appreciates the impact — both from an organizational and personal perspective — that ongoing restructuring has had on our business, our employees and the community," he added. "We will continue to approach the current economic challenges in such a manner."
