The Hinckley Co. named Peter O’Connell as its president and CEO.

The company said O’Connell will transfer his family from Madison, Conn., to Rhode Island and will take the helm Sept. 1.

Hinckley said O’Connell has been the CEO of companies such as Navtec and Lewmar. Most recently he was CEO of Datacom Systems, a privately held technology company.

O’Connell also is an experienced boater and owns a Hinckley Picnic boat, Retriever. He succeeds Jim McManus, who died last November after a long battle with cancer.
