Independent Boat Builders Inc. awarded Syntec Industries of Rome, Ga., the first John "Walkabout" Sisson Memorial Innovation Award for its new CoolTouch vinyl.

“We have asked our members to vote for a new innovative product during our meeting for the last several years. Since we lost our dear friend John Sisson last April we had been searching for a way to best honor his memory and his dedication to IBBI,” IBBI president Tom Broy said in a statement. “We renamed our innovation award the John “Walkabout” Sisson Memorial Innovation Award because, through his career at Malibu Boats and later at Bryant Boats, John was one of the most innovative people in the marine industry.”

“It was truly an honor to have our CoolTouch Vinyl win this award up against so many other worthy entries,” Syntec president Bill Watters said in a statement. “But it is a bigger honor to win the award named after my good friend ‘Walkabout,’ whose life inspired many.”
