Marathon Boat Group has named David Porthouse director of operations. Previously, the chief operating officer at Champion Boats, Inc., Porthouse is a veteran of the marine, sporting, shooting and trucking industries.

He will be responsible for production, quality, engineering, new product development and plant management. Porthouse will be based in Marathon, Fla., and will report to KK Tiwari, president of MBG.

“Marathon Boat Group is investing in maximizing our production capacity, improving our manufacturing facility and implementing industry best-in-class lean principles,” Tiwari said in a statement. “And we sought a strong groundbreaker to ensure we achieve these goals. David’s leadership success at Champion Boats driving the development of manufacturing and engineering strategies perfectly aligns to deliver on Marathon Boat Group’s commitment to our customers and dealers.”

Porthouse has a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of Texas-Austin and he was recognized as a National Merit Scholar. In 1993, he joined Champion Boats and, as the COO, Porthouse expanded domestic and international distribution. Following that, as COO of Triumph Systems, a training systems/target manufacture for the shooting industry, he designed and implemented a global supply chain strategy.
