Luxury yacht manufacturer David Marlow is seeking to buy the property of The Boat School in Eastport, Maine for $850,000.

Marlow, the owner of Marlow Yachts, has manufacturing facilities in Florida and Asia, and a seasonal residence in Brooklin, Maine. He presented his offer to Eastport city councilors last week, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Marlow plans not only to create a state-of-the-art yacht and boatbuilding facility in Eastport, but also has offered to upgrade the two-year curriculum at The Boat School to a four-year program.

He is also proposing to build a new wharf for public access, a scenic walkway and a maritime and boatbuilding museum. The sale also could move Eastport into a more secure future, bolstering town coffers and providing more than 100 new jobs.

Marlow is not seeking any tax incentives. He has offered to fund two local scholarships annually for the school and provide benches, landscaping and water fountains in the downtown area.

Marlow's nine-page proposal was overwhelmingly endorsed by the Eastport City Councilors, who signed a resolution last week stating their support, the newspaper reported.

The sale now hinges on the state legislature. The state-owned property was sold to the city of Eastport in 2007 and it will take additional legislation to approve any sale.
