This year’s New York National Boat Show, set for Dec. 13-21, will offer many features designed to increase attendance.
“This year, we made a greater investment in fresh and exciting features, advertising and promotion for the New York show and its new dates,” said Ben Wold, executive vice president of the National Marine Manufacturers Association, which owns and produces the show.
“With the new mid-December time frame, NMMA is pulling out all the stops to reign in consumers while they’re in the holiday buying mood and making the show more fun than ever before to attract as many attendees as possible during this economic downturn,” he added.
The show takes place nearly two weeks earlier than originally scheduled, following five years of dates that straddled the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Last year’s attendance was 61,464.
It’s being promoted through a new marketing campaign that follows the theme, “Where will you be December 13?” with a promotional video being distributed online. The theme is the backdrop for all marketing efforts, which are expanded this year to ensure the new dates are promoted throughout the market.
Highlights of this year’s event include brothers Andy and Jonathan Hillstrand, co-captains of the fishing vessel Time Bandit featured on Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch.” They will be on hand Dec. 13 and 14.
Brunswick will offer show-goers an opportunity to win a grand prize package through its “Spectacular Holiday Giveaway,” offered exclusively at the New York show. The package includes a 13-foot Boston Whaler sportboat, Brunswick pool table with cue rack and accessories, Brunswick poker table with four chairs, Brunswick Centennial bar with two bar stools, and a Life Fitness treadmill and home gym.
Additionally, the official celebration of the 400th birthday of the European discovery of the Hudson River — the Hudson River Quadricentennial — takes place Dec. 13, in conjunction with the opening day of the show. The yearlong celebration will include many local boating events.
