Sea Ray has laid off 70 workers at its Knoxville, Tenn., plant, Brunswick spokesman Dan Kubera confirmed this morning.

Also in Tennessee, 70 Sea Ray workers at the Riverview plant were laid off as part of the previously announced mothballing of that facility. Kubera described those cuts as part of the “wind-down process.”

Brunswick had announced in January the Riverview facility would be mothballed, with 300 jobs either lost or moving within the state.

In addition to Riverview, Brunswick has closed, mothballed or sold 14 other North American plants since 2006.

At a conference earlier this week, Brunswick's CEO Dustan McCoy said sales of recreational boats may decline more than 20 percent in 2009.

McCoy said powerboat sales volume may fall below 150,000 units from 196,000 boats in 2008.
