A record purse exceeding $35,000 in cash and prizes is up for grabs at the World Wakesurfing Championships, scheduled for July 22-24 in Minneapolis.

The event is being held in conjunction with the Minneapolis Aquatennial.

"Combining the World Wakesurfing Championships with the Aquatennial makes great sense. It's the perfect venue and puts the championships right in downtown Minneapolis at a proven site, showcased within the hugely successful Aquatennial. This is a big step for wakesurfing and excellent for the athletes," Centurion chief marketing officer Mark Overbye said in a statement.

Centurion Boats, of Virginia Beach, Va., is the title sponsor of the event.
