Caterpillar sales dip in January

Caterpillar reported a decline in marine engine sales in January, down 18 percent compared with January 2009.

However, the decline was less severe compared with declines of 35 percent and 29 percent in November and December respectively, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Caterpillar reported sales declines in all segments, though the marine segment showed the smallest drop.
