Mercury given Wisconsin business award

A special achievement award was given this week to Mercury Marine management, union leaders and local, state and county officials for the work of all involved in keeping Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac, Wis.

The award was presented at the Business & Industry Awards Dinner held at Marian University.

Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle gave the keynote address at the dinner, saying Mercury Marine should serve as an example of the direction the state needs to go.

Doyle gave kudos to the union and management, saying they both stepped outside their roles to reach a decision that bodes well for the state.

"The result was a good result for Wisconsin," he said. "It's not one that left everyone happy at the end of the day, but it was a good result."
