Mercury Marine unveils new four-stroke engines

The engines will be available globally in mid-2016.

Mercury Marine introduced new 40-hp and 60-hp SeaPro FourStroke engines that are designed to withstand saltwater environments.

The engines will be available globally in mid-2016.

Mercury said SeaPro engines have features that include a commercial-grade fuel pump, flywheel magnet retainer, more durable upper mounts, a stainless steel thermostat and an improved gas assist trim cylinder (on select models).

“Mercury’s latest SeaPro FourStroke outboard engine introduction enhances Mercury’s commitment to developing the most durable, most reliable four-stroke outboards for commercial applications,” Marty Bass, vice president of Mercury category management, said in a statement. “With SeaPro we have not simply recalibrated our existing product, we have made upgrades to enhance durability and performance and then tested those upgrades to withstand the harshest environments.”

“Additionally, these engines are designed to be easy to maintain and deliver the outstanding fuel economy that is inherent to four-stroke technology,” Bass said.

Along with Mercury’s exclusive multistep paint process, the new engines come standard with an anodized driveshaft housing to decrease corrosion and improve performance in saltwater environments.

Mercury’s larger Command Thrust gearcase, which creates a bigger footprint in the water and provides more leverage to control the boat, is standard on the new SeaPro models.

All SeaPro models feature an extended commercial warranty, compared with standard engines.
