Mercury offers engine-upgrade promotion

Mercury Marine launched a retail promotion encouraging boat owners to upgrade with more fuel-efficient outboard engines and the latest control technology.

Under the "Trade Up America - Mercury Repower Sales Event," qualified Mercury engines sold in the United States from Sept. 3 through Oct. 31 are eligible for consumer rebates.

Rebate amounts range from $300 to $1,000 per engine on specific 4-stroke and OptiMax engines.

"The benefits are twofold: first, this promotion is designed to drive traffic into Mercury dealerships that will result in new engine sales and service department business," said Randy Caruana, Mercury's vice president of sales, in a statement. "Second - on a much larger scale - it has the capacity to improve the overall customer boating experience with more reliable technology and the confidence afforded by a factory warranty."

Caruana said the timing of the promotion coincides with the period when many boats will be winterized, so repowering can occur while the boats are already out of service.
