METS 2017: Torqeedo debuts new batteries and trolling motor

Torqeedo, which makes electric propulsion systems and equipment, showed new batteries and a new way to refit from diesel to electric power at the Metstrade show in Amsterdam.

“Offering sustainable products that deliver a superior value over conventional combustion engines has always been Torqeedo’s core,” Torqeedo CEO Christoph Ballin said in a statement. “We continue this tradition in 2018.”

The new 48-volt, Power 48-5000 is a lithium battery for electric motors up to 10 kW. Torqeedo said it has a long service life and an eight-year capacity warranty.

Torqeedo’s new BMW i8 high-power battery is designed for boats with limited space and the company said it boasts the highest energy density available in the marine market.

On the engine side the Ultralight 403 A models have a new mounting system for fishing kayaks. To make it easier to refit a sailboat with diesel power up to 20 hp, Torqeedo has the new Cruise 10.0 FP Saildrive Mount, which uses existing saildrive mounting hardware to convert to electric power.
