Sail magazine is cranking up its 2016 Best Boats awards program, which is sponsored by Raymarine.

In June, the magazine sent out its first round of solicitations to boatbuilders large and small, initiating what it said was the most comprehensive boat evaluation program in the industry — one that strives to survey every new boat making its U.S. debut, whether it’s a dinghy or a 65-foot flagship.

As in previous years, Sail is featuring the 2016 Best Boats nominees in an eight-page section in its September issue and online at sailmagazine.com.

A team of Sail editors and judges will review the boatbuilding class of 2016 by studying their lines, examining their construction details, interviewing builders and designers and taking boats for a sail.

Winners of this year’s Best Boats awards will be featured in Sail’s December issue, with videos of the winners also available for viewing at sailmagazine.com.

As in 2015, Sail’s judges will focus on 10 categories.
