Volvo Penta of the Americas said it has named Spar Yard Marine Solutions as an authorized sales and service dealer in Bermuda.
Bermuda will host the 35th America’s Cup, and Volvo said Spar Yard is well positioned to support the influx of leisure and commercial vessels leading up to and during the event next June.
Established in 1995, Spar Yard recently underwent significant growth through the amalgamation of two additional local marine organizations, which Volvo said makes it the premier full-service boatyard in Bermuda.
Located in the Royal Navy Dockyard, Spar Yard serves a full range of vessels, including those that local businesses, residents and tourists operate, Volvo said.
“Spar Yard is a welcome addition to Volvo Penta’s growing dealer network,” Marcia Kull, vice president of marine sales for Volvo Penta of the Americas, said in a statement. “They have a great reputation on the island for their quality of work and dedication to customer satisfaction.”
Johnson & Towers, a certified Volvo Penta power center, will provide technical expertise and support to Spar Yard, as needed.
“We expect up to 60,000 people for the America’s Cup event, and much of the movement of traffic will be on the water,” said Kareem Johnson, general manager of Spar Yard.
“As a result, we are seeing tremendous demand for repowering, upgrading and servicing the engines in Bermuda’s general fleet, from sightseeing, charter boats and racing team support vessels to privately owned vessels. There will also be boats brought in from outside to meet the need for reliable transportation, and we are expecting a huge influx of visiting yachts.”
“Our location close to the America’s Cup team support center will enable us to provide on-the-spot service and repairs quickly and efficiently,” he added.
